Mama? is an installation of 19 concrete balls in varying states of rupture and wholeness. It comes from parenting school age children and trying to hold, question, and reflect the brokenness of the world. It is the call out, Mama?, that could require quick help in understanding a math problem or a long discussion about ongoing racial injustice and the ways humans fail to care for each other. It is the call out that happens in the simultaneous experience of isolation and saturation, rain that doesn’t come, and a loss and heaviness that permeates during the Covid-19 pandemic.
